Must have: Bachelors degree or at the least an Associate. Client doesn't want to see anyone from the hospital industry. Prefer someone with 7-10 years of experience and steady employment.
Responsibilities:
Oversee biweekly payroll processes to ensure timeliness and accuracy of employee paychecks and year end W-2s.
Supervise payroll department staff and operations to ensure proper training, coaching, developing, and evaluating employees in support of company growth.
Review and approve the work product and activities of the Payroll team to ensure all payroll activities are performed according to company policies, implementing appropriate checks, balances, audit trails, and trending analysis where required.
Manage all payroll and employee benefit general ledger accounts, to include account reconciliations and monthly accruals.
Ensure timely and accurate preparation of all payroll operations and work closely with the Human Resources department to ensure that payroll actions are in conformance with employment and benefits practices and accounting procedures.
Compiling and filing required reports as well as responsible for year-end close, year-end reporting, and coordinating with ADP on processing of W-2's.
Handling and supporting audits, audit requests and maintaining appropriate controls and documentation for SOX compliance.
Continuously assess the payroll systems and processes for gaps and inefficiencies and develop recommendations for improvements as necessary to ensure accurate and efficient processing in a highly controlled environment.
Performs other related duties as deemed necessary.
Remain abreast of developments in the payroll field by pursuing a program of self-development, participating in professional organizations, interacting with peers, reviewing pertinent literature, etc.
Maintain the validity and integrity of payroll system data and ensure all payroll transactions are in compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, as well as company policy.
Respond to payroll inquiries from internal customers and outside agencies and provide information or direction as needed.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. National Payroll certification is highly desirable. CPP preferred.
Minimum of 5 years experience in running a payroll department for a company with 300+employees (both exempt and non-exempt) in multi-state environment.
Extensive knowledge in federal/state tax and labor laws.
ADP and/or PeopleSoft Time and Labor highly desired.
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated supervisory and other interpersonal skills desirable.
