    Title: Accounting Director - Credit Union
    Location: Des Plaines, IL
    Job Type: Full Time
    Salary: $150K+ bonus

    The successful candidate in this position leads all aspects of the organizations accounting functions, policies and procedures. He/She proactively stays attuned to emerging accounting issues and opinions, regulatory environment and any critical changes, industry trends and issues, and assesses and provides expert knowledge and recommendations to Executive Team and Supervisory Committee. Work involves considerable difficulty in planning and directing ledger accounts, financial statements, and cost control systems. Resources to do the job require reliance on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals utilizing a wide degree of creativity and latitude. Direction is received from the Senior Vice President/Chief Financial Officer.

    Responsibilities:

    Accounting Management:


    Leads, develops and oversees application of accounting policies and procedures for the Credit Union; insures accurate and thorough documentation; is the organizations functional expert on accounting matters; and provides guidance to the organization on accounting matters
    Proactively monitors and stays up-to-date on emerging FASB issues and opinions, regulatory changes, and industry trends to provide appropriate recommendations and action plans necessary and applicable for the credit union
    Oversees business wide financial transaction processes in addition to Accounts Payable, Reconciliations, Cost Accounting and other transactional accounting functions. Works effectively with business unit peers and partners to effectuate the organizations accounting matters
    Ensures that the Credit Unions accounting and financial reporting programs satisfy all applicable legal, regulatory and internal requirements and are GAAP compliant.
    When required, assists in the accounting aspects of acquisitions and divestitures

    Financial Reporting:

    Responsible for consolidation, management, preparation and accurate reporting of financial information and reports for both internal and external requirements
    Maintains strong controls and processes for the reporting of accounting and financial data to regulatory agencies. Reviews monthly, quarterly and annual financial results with Senior Management and Board of Directors
    Maintains formal corporate financial records

    Process Improvement:

    Responsible for continuous improvement focus to enhance accuracy and efficiency in all processes within the AFR function: AP, Month-End Close, Reconciliations, etc.
    Partners with cross-functional peers to identify and deliver process improvement opportunities within the accounting function or interdependent functions that aim at enhanced accuracy, automation and elimination of redundancy

    Performance Management:

    Manage a team of 2-3 management employees
    Through great management practices, lead an engaged workforce as defined by Q12 Gallup process to effectively deliver the value of this function
    Provides a structural and consistent approach to ensure that individual development plans are in place, performance management is consistent, performance management process is respected and followed, and coaching and feedback are provided on a daily and frequent basis

    Requirements:

    Completion of a Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
    Minimum 10 years of experience in the field
    Must be familiar with a variety of the fields concepts, practices, and procedures including financial accounting and reporting experience in a hands-on environment.
    CPA required
    Big 6 audit experience and SEC reporting experience highly desirable
    Thorough knowledge of GAAP required
    Extensive financial analysis skills required, including variance analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and financial modeling
    Multi-tasking skills required including the ability to deal with a heavy volume period with tight time parameters
    Proficiency with mainframe accounting system and PC required
    Must have the ability to interact effectively and professionally with cross-functional teams and with external accounting audit firm to effectively deliver the companys objectives
    The incumbent is a member of the Senior Leadership Team, and thus must be a cross-functional team player and has the ability to understand and effectively integrate accounting practices into the overall business strategy and operations
    Advanced presentation skills required; to present information to executive management and board members professionally and effectively
